Matt and I went out further in Busan yesterday. We started by eating at a place just over the road from the Motel and there was much confusion before finally a random meal was brought out before us. It consisted of a dish of fish wrapped in egg, the main pork dish, some sort of cabbage soup, sticky rice and an odd assortment of other items totally unedible to us, due to the level of spice...oh and of course there was some kimchi, which I have no real intention of ever eating.
All in all the food wasn't too bad and it was massively cheap, just 15000 won between the two of us. Next we began by wandering off to a lotte store just up the road from where we are staying. It's fairly big, but fairly useless, since we couldn't really use any other items they had there at the moment. But it was facing one of the tube stations. We went ahead. Two white fellows in a sea of Koreans. It was fairly dauting, but the rail maps are fairly easy to follow.
First we went to City Hall, just because it was a place we could identify with and had no idea where anything really was...but as you may have guessed city hall has bugger all on offer for a tourist and so we quickly returned to subway and made our way further south.
We ended up in the harbour and spent a great deal of time wandering around. I won't go into great detail for the most part because that would so fucking boring, but I'll give a run down of anything significant.
The harbour itself was pretty immesnse, lots of huge cago ships and ferries.
Oh and I forgot to mention, it rained all day. Not terribly important, but it's why the pictures look so drab.
We stopped off at a coffee shop and drank much tea from very small cups, but otherwise it was fairly nice, clearly a place for the local business men/women to go to drink and work. We also found a very strange bakery, Matt got a big cookie looking thing and I got a quiche looking thing. Mine was just wrong: egg, cheese, jam and a sort of brioche bread. Matt's was nice, but I did make up for it by buying this great tasting ice lolly, no idea what the flavour was, but I liked it.
We meandered through the harbour for a good few hours and then we came across a second lotte building, this one was immense, so we just had to go inside and take a look. It had 11 floors, most of which were devoted to really expensive women's wear. But right at the top of the building there was a nice quiet outdoor garden and an observation deck, it made the whole journey up there worth it.
Then after returning to the motel and falling asleep for an unknown amount of time, we went back to the steak house, since we had decided we'd rather not have fish and kimchi show up in our meal again. Once more it was alright, but just as last time (although I may have forgotten to mention this) they played really loud christmas music, either terrible originals, or bastardised Korean versions. These bastardised versions would have a Korean singing it, but in English. Why? Why not use the original?
Well it was a fairly eventful day. There is supposed to be another English teacher turning up today...don't know if we'll see them. But Matt and I have come to the conclusion that if they are coming all the way from the UK today it's not a very smart plan especially since we start bright and early tomorrow, that being the 15th December. Especially given how long it has taken us to get over the jet lag ourselves. But hey maybe they're already in the country and just moving to a new position.
Well that's me for now, I may post another at the end of the day since I have no idea whether I'll have internet access at my next place, or how long it will take to get it...maybe 2 weeks if that's how long it takes to get an alien card...
